[on verso of a letter from Boosey & Hawkes, dated 30 Jun 1944]
Dear Harry,
A nice memento for your musical diary. It will go alongside memento number two some years later when they will ask permission to have the publishing writes of some of your work. I am always inflating you.
Seriously - I hardly expected more. Publishing and publications are honey combed with much more intricate channels than the simple "recognition of talent".
It is not important yet whether it is published or not. You will find that your best works are nearly always turned down at first (unless its Shoo shoo, baby - or Mairze doats)
It will come
Excelsior
Eric
