I haven't had confirmation yet but I presume I have lost my trunk and stuff that was in the room. I am so glad now that I insisted they put my large painting 'Return from Berlin' in the vault of the other building in the basement, otherwise I would have lost that. How stupid to worry over pigment when people are losing their lives. It is a strange war. On one day there was a big thunderstorm with lightning. Thunder and hail. I was musing what a grandeur the friendly violence seemed to have, when through this pilotless weather a buzz bomb intruded with sinister sound.
I am reminded of the locusts in Revelations with the sting of scorpions whose king is the angel of the bottomless pit. I think of you and what you represent. And love you. Please understand me and forgive.

Well the trip over here was most interesting. God favoured us with one of the most beautiful sunny days we have had over here and the channel was like a lake. Some day I'll try to describe the spectacle. For now I will just say it was leisurely, peaceful and comfortable. In the middle of the channel it seemed so strange to be listening to some of Debussy's preludes over the air. Undisputed we disembarked. The ship literally spewing us out of its mouth onto the beach with all manner of 1944 vehicles. It has all been a most extraordinary piece of organisation this invasion and just beats the imagination when you see it.
